Nantucket provides great opportunity for year-round triathlon training. Please refer to our calendar on the homepage for specific scheduled group workouts.
The following workouts occur on a weekly basis in the summer and are also noted on the calendar:

Swim:

The Nantucket Community Pool is the indoor swimming option. Adult swim times vary during the day, week to week, but are consistently held during the evening hours from 5:00-7:30pm. (except during high school swim team season) organized swims usually occur on Wednesday evenings and will be announced in the forums.
In the summer months, members are always looking for open water swim partners, as this activity should always be performed in a group. Many members have open water swims mapped and measured to fit various training distances. This may be a 400 meter swim at jetties beach or a 2.4mi swim from Monomoy to Pimney’s Point.

Group Rides:

Group rides leave almost daily in the summer months from the old rotary. These rides generally include riders of varying ability. The rides may average as much as 25+mph. The route generally is the same and covers from 25-60 miles and may include a few optional sprints. There are many out and back turnarounds which allow for regrouping of dropped riders. The following is a list of items to have with you before joining a group ride:

  1. Helmet (mandatory! the ride will not leave with a rider that does not have one.)
  2. Flat tire kit (tubes, levers, air)
  3. Water and Nutrition
  4. ID
  5. Multi-tool
  6. cell phone (optional)

If you're new to a group ride, please let someone in Nantucket Triathlon Club gear know. We are very welcoming people and would be more than happy to help you out with any questions you may have.

We obey all traffic laws and are courteous to all drivers that we share the road with.

The rides are conducted on the roads, as the bike paths are simply too dangerous for road bikes, let alone large groups of road bikes. The exception is Milestone road. The multi-use path along Milestone Road generally has good sight-lines and can be ridden safely. Be aware of street crossings and other users of the path at this point in the ride.

Triathlon or Time-trial bikes are welcome. We do request that you refrain from using your aerobars while in a pace-line; unless you are the lead rider or the last rider.

Weekly Time Trial:

During the summer months there is a free weekly time trial held on Thursday evenings at 5:30pm. Riders meet at windswept bogs off of Polpis Road for a 7.5mi individual time trial. Riders are seeded by time and started in 30 second intervals. Timing is provided and recorded. This a great opportunity to test your fitness gains on a weekly, monthly or seasonal basis. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged! Over the last two years we have seen riders drop their times by up to 5 minutes over the course of the season!

Running:

As with our other group training, group runs will be announced in the forums and on the homepage calendar. As a general rule however, there is a group run that leaves the rotary at 8:00am on Sundays, from the rotary. This run is generally pretty relaxed in pace and can vary from 4-20 miles (you can do whatever you feel comfortable with!) Other group runs occur throughout the week that focus on speed and may include intervals. These “track workouts” will be announced in the forums as they occur.

Brant Point Runners:

Every Tuesday evening at 5:30 runners meet at The corner of Easton Street and North Beach street for a timed 5k. All levels of runners are welcomed and encouraged. Timing is provided by a volunteer and the times are listed weekly in the Island Newspaper the Inquirer and Mirror.
